Last weekend Opening to the Sacred, the retreat ministry I share with a friend who is also a spiritual director, offered a retreat called Rest For Your Soul.<\/em><\/strong> We had a good group and it was a lovely day of exploring scripture, prayer, and reflection. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 you and learn from me, for I am gentle\u00a0 and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>Matthew 11:28-29<\/p>\n

My partner considered the nature of aspen trees.\u00a0 A stand or grove of aspens grows from a single seed.\u00a0 It the the root system that spreads and the trees multiply in this way.\u00a0 We related that to our connectedness as people of God.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 For as the days of a tree , so will be the days of my people.<\/em>\u00a0 Isaiah 65:22b<\/p>\n

It was a quiet, wisdom-filled and restful day.<\/p>\n

Moved by the sharing of ideas and thoughts about the Matthew text, I\u00a0 wrote a poem<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 YOKED \"yoke\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I thought a yoke was limiting\r\nBut it depends on the \"yokees\"\r\nBeing yoked to Christ means freedom\r\n   Trusting in loving guidance.\r\nWe are led in the Way designed for us\r\n   Specially and lovingly for us\r\nNot sent where we don't want to go\r\nBut in the direction we must go \r\n   to fulfill our destiny\r\n         Our own path but side by side\r\nWith the One who knows us \r\n         better than we know ourselves.\r\nI will take your yoke and I learn from you\r\n         In gratitude and humility\r\n                In Awe\r\n                      In love<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
