Happy New Year
Another year has sped by. Here in the US we have come to appreciate what our democracy means to us and how fragile it is. Greed and power hunger have damaged it. Seeing it slip away has been quite traumatic. I think there is a national malaise because of it. Some are frozen in shock that it is even be happening. Others are angry and playing out their anger in their rudeness, impatience and meanness. Many are trying to figure out a good strategy to resist politically.
This feels like a time to remember and remind ourselves what we want in life. What is morally right, what is it we want our life to be. As people of faith, we need to regroup, come back together united in our understanding of what justice, compassion and good will look like. We’ve lost something precious when we fail to see every living being as deserving of life, food, shelter and health. It is simply because they are living on this earth where there is plenty and even an abundance. There is clearly enough for all. We all matter.
